By Andrew Nsoseka with field reports

Barrister Agbor Felix Nkongho aka Agbor Balla, one of the Anglophone leaders recently released from prison has been awarded the sage title of Sessessekou.

In the ceremony, which took place during the weekend, people from far and wide including friends, colleagues, his Anglophone following had converged on Bakwele Village in Manyu Division, Southwest Region, for a homecoming in honour of their brave illustrious son, who was recently released from prison in Yaounde.

According to the Bayang custom, the Ekpe title conferred on Agbor Balla, accords him the status to discuss with elders on equal terms. The Sessessekou title is the most privileged title in the Manyu land and can only be obtained by birth, aptitude or accomplishment.

The title is awarded to someone who has achieved something that benefits Manyu people. It is equally conferred on someone who has fought and overcome a tiger in the secret forest. It is also earned through birth.

The Sessessekou title adds to Agbor Balla’s attainment of having served the United Nations for over a dozen years, at various levels and in various countries, President of Fako Lawyers Association, FAKLA, President of the outlawed Cameroon Anglophone Civil Society Consortium, CACSC, among others.

The new Sessessekou, in his reaction, thanked the traditional authorities, elders of the land and the Manyu people for the love, care, prayers and support accorded him during his 8-month long detention at Kondengui in Yaounde.
