Cameroon’s Vice Prime Minister Amadou Ali was evacuated to France on Wednesday, October 14 to be treated for a respiratory problem, reports Mutations newspaper.

The report, published Thursday, says the 72-year-old left the country in the company of President Paul Biya’s personal doctor aboard a medical aircraft.

Mutations sources told the newspaper that Amadou Ali’s health began deteriorating in recent months as a result of the kidnapping of his wife and the killing of his family members during the terrorist raid at his residence in Kolofata by suspected Islamist Boko Haram militants on July 27, 2014.

Amadou Ali, who survived the October 2 government reshuffle, was appointed Vice Prime Minister in 2004 and has held the post since.
