The Roman Catholic Church has opened the second university in Cameroon, specifically in Bamenda after the one in Yaounde. The university is known as Catholic University of Cameroon. A matriculation ceremony to officially open the institution for the 2010-2011 academic year, will take place on October 15.

The new university will have seven faculties: Faculty of Business and Management Sciences, Faculty of Human and Social Sciences, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Civil Engineering and the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

During a mass concelebrated by four Bishops to mark the official launching of the University, recently, Bishop George Nkuo of the Diocese of Kumbo, Northwest Region, said: "This University is the ultimate instrument to proclaim justice and hope."  Four priests and three lay people appointed to lead the University were sworn in.
