Ber Bridge On Verge Of Collapsing

By Peter Adi Fonte

CameroonPostline.com — The Ber Bridge in Jakiri Subdivision, Bui Division, linking the West Region to Jakiri in the Northwest is on the verge of giving way as water has eroded the basement of the bridge over the years. Eyewitnesses say the bridge is sitting on bare skeletons with most areas cracked. The Bui Divisional Delegate of Public Works, Wilfred Forsuh Jing, following reports visited the bridge recently to see things for himself.

The Bui Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, Bernard Ngone Ndodemesape, who also visited the Ber Bridge accompanied by the Divisional Officer, DO, for Jakiri, Daniel Ngembane Ekole, instructed the Sub-Delegate of Public Works to post signs warning drivers not to risk using the road as the bridge can give way at any time.

Vehicles traveling to Jakiri for now can only get there by passing through Bangoland via Babessi to Jakiri and Kumbo. It should be recalled that recently a devastating flood swept through Babessi causing serious damage to rice farms and crops besides rendering some families homeless.
