Buea Regional Hospital Has A New Director

— Dr. George Enow-Orock Enownchong is the new Director of the Buea Regional Hospital. He was appointed on April 11, 2012 by a decision signed by the Minister of Public Health, André Mama Fouda. In a chat with The Post in Yaounde over the weekend, he disclosed that he would technically be taking up service within the week.

Dr. Enow-Orock, who hails from Besongabang in Manyu Division of the Southwest Region, schooled in PSS Besongabang and CCAST Bambili where he obtained his Ordinary and Advanced Level certificates in 1979 and 1981, respectively. From there, he attended the Universities of Ibadan in Nigeria and Yaounde I where he bagged professional certificates in medicines in 1987 and 1998 respectively.

Before his appointment last April 11, Dr. Enow-Orock was, since 1998, the Chief of Service of Pathology at the Yaounde General Hospital. From a Visiting Lecturer between 1993 and 2003 at the Faculty of Health Sciences in the University of Buea, he became an Assistant Lecturer between 2008 and 2009 and in 2011. He moved up to the position of a Senior Lecturer, an attribute he is holding till date.

Since 2004 to date, Dr. Enow-Orock is the Director of the Yaounde Cancer Registry. Other positions he has held as a Medical Doctor and a specialist in pathology with sub-specialty in anatomic pathology include Chief of the Akwaya Sub divisional Hospital from 1989 to 1990. Between 1988 and 1989, he was Chief of the Zoetele Sub divisional Hospital while from 1987 to 1988; he was the Medical Officer at the Yaounde Central Hospital.

The Buea Regional Director has 22 publications in English and French to his credit. Some of the publications include: “Contribution of Autopsy to Medical Practice in Cameroon: A 10-year review; Juvenile Gigantomastia Treated by Reduction of Mammoplasty with Nipple-Areola Complex Grafting in the Yaounde General Hospital; Gynecological Cancer Profile in Yaounde Population, Cameroon; Organ Lesions and Cause of Death in HIV Seropositive and AIDS Patients in Yaounde, Cameroon; amongst many others.

Dr. Enow-Orock is a resource person of national and international repute. He is in record for having presented as much as over 16 papers and posters at national and international conferences across the world. Some of such papers include HIV malignancies in Cameroon; HIV Cancer Trends in Yaounde; Forensic Toxicology in Cameroon; Challenges of Cancer Registration in Low-Resource Population; among others.

He is a member of national and international scientific societies such as the National Committee for the Fight Against Cancer in Cameroon; the African Union Sub-Committee for African Pharmacopoeia; and the International Association of Cancer Registries. He was Deputy Secretary General of the Cameroon Society of Pathologies from 2002 to 2009. Dr. Enow-Orock is a fellow since 1992, of the Union Internationale Contre le Cancer (UICC)

Socially, he was the Secretary General of the Southwest Elite Association (SWELA) from 1997 to 2010; Founding President of the Mbinjong Development Association from 1995 to 2009; Founding President of the Manyu Economic Development World Conference between 2006 and 2008. He was equally the Founding President of the Manyu Solidarity Foundation from 1995 to 2004.
