ECOBANK Creates 20th Branch In Kumba 

In his speech at the ceremony, the Managing Director of the bank, Ivorian born Babahady Marega, said, ECOBANK that was created in 1985 has grown into a universal bank, offering a wide variety of services and financial products to government, multinational companies, small and medium size enterprises, micro finance institutions as well as individuals. He said the bank was created with an objective to offer quality banking services to its customers. Babahady stated that the bank is found in 27 countries across Africa and Europe and is presently in all 10 regions of Cameroon.

He said the majority of the share capital of USD 265 million is held by Africans. In Cameroon, the Managing Director said, there was a substantial increase of up to FCFA 190 billion at the end of 2008. He said the bank adopted a strategy to develop the retail banking segment through a policy of proximity banking, which started in 2005.

He disclosed that with FCFA 25,000, a prospective client can open a bank account and have access to electronic withdrawal cards. He mentioned the availability of loan facilities to businessmen and women. Babahady told the Kumba population that the bank has come to support the economic efforts of businessmen and women of Meme Division.

The Kumba Branch Manager of the bank, Alphonse Shang Samoa, promised the Meme population that they would provide them reliable, open door, speedy and professional services.
Meme Senior Divisional Officer, Magloire Abath Zangbwala presided at occasion. Present at the occasion was the Divisional Officers for Kumba I, II and III Sub Divisions, the paramount ruler of the Bafaws, Nfon V E Mukete, the Bafaw traditional council and the Nigerian community among others.
