FCFA 12M Raised For Chomba Development Projects

By Jean Marie Ngong Song* — About FCFA 12 million has been raised to carry out development projects in Chomba Village, Northwest Region.

The fundraising ceremony, chaired by HRH Fon Martin Forbuzie Asanji II of Chomba, brought together sons and daughters at home and abroad as well as local administrative officials like the Mayor of Bamenda II council. Speaking on the occasion, the National President of Chomba Development and Cultural Association, CHODECA, Simon Nkwenti, called on sons and daughters of Chomba to be united and ensure the development of the village.

Nkwenti hailed all home-based traditional authorities like the council that ensures peace and cleanliness in the village.  He told the population that this year’s annual cultural come-together is an important one as they will be celebrating the golden Jubilee of the reign of their Fon and the “Miguini Mafor”, from January 4-6 next year.

He said the development of Chomba can only be a reality if elite of Chomba speak the same language and shun conflicts that retard the association. Nkwenti said, last year, CHODECA rehabilitated four classrooms and provided 250 benches to GS Chomba. He said the association also recruited teachers for the schools.

Concerning the challenges facing CHODECA, its National President noted that CHODECA will go against all odds in raising the lone Government Technical College , GTC, to a GTHS next year, ensure the building of more bridges as well as prioritise projects like electrification expansion and the construction of CHODECA’s permanent secretariat.

Earlier, the representative of the Mayor of Bamenda II council mentioned the contribution of the council to the development of the area like the donation of FCFA 7.5 million to help CHODECA in developing the area, as well as awarding scholarships to orphans and students in Chomba.

Fon Forbuzie lauded the fundraising ceremony of which FCFA 12 million was raised for development projects.  In the build-up to the event, sporting activities were organised, while 10 cultural groups drawn from across the Chomba Fondom graced the occasion.
