Fire Guts Former Governor’s Residence

By Maxcel Fokwen

Fire, whose cause is yet to be established, has razed the Kumba residence, along the Buea Road neighbourhood, of former Governor, Charles Onyong Nzege.

The fire incident occurred in the night of Sunday, January 7 breaking Monday January 8.
Eyewitnesses recount that the fire ravaged the entire structure and its contents. The incident is said to have occurred without the knowledge of most of those who pass around the area. Even neighbours are said to have been caught off guard at the nature of the flames that reduced the building to rubble.

Some persons who witnessed the incident told The Post that the fire may have been the consequence of an electric short circuit. Others think the incident is not unconnected to the frequent power outage that has hit the city of Kumba since 2018 rumbled off.

A close friend to the former Governor’s wife told The Post that, on the day of the incident, there was no body at home. The wife of the former administrator is said to have travelled to Muyuka. She is said to have returned only to be faced with the bad news.
