Flood Renders Over 100 Homeless In Babessi

By Chris Mbunwe

CameroonPostline.com — Heavy rains, September 9-10, reportedly destroyed over 30 houses and farm lands in Babessi Subdivision, Ngoketunjia Division, in the Northwest. While the affected families are desperately waiting for relief, administrative and traditional authorities of Babessi say more houses will continue to sink if the rains continue to fall.

The Divisional Officer for Babessi, Ali Anougu, whose office was also flooded, says the main stream that cuts across Babessi town (Abakwa) overflowed its banks and emptied into over 30 houses. The situation has been compounded by poor drainage system. It is about 40 years since such a flood disaster occurred in Babessi.
