Gov’t To Distribute Treated Mosquito Nets

The Government of Cameroon has announced plans to distribute treated mosquito nets in four Regions of the country.

The announcement, contained in a press release signed by the Minster of Public Health, Andre Mama Fouda, is a joint effort of the Cameroon Government and international partners aimed at kicking out malaria, a disease considered as one of the highest killers on the African continent.

Going by the release, the distribution of the long-lasting treated mosquito bed nets is part of a campaign to reach out to and maintain universal coverage in the fight against malaria through interventions that have a sustainable impact between 2015 and 2017.

The exercise whose first phase started with household head count on July 16 will span to August 4, 2015 in the East, Northwest, South and Southwest Regions. Some 12 million treated mosquito bed nets, which have a lifespan of two years, are expected to be distributed in all the 10 Regions of Cameroon.

The Government, through the release, urged families to effectively use the mosquito bed nets in a bid to eradicate diseases and death resulting from malaria to the barest minimum.
