Njindom People Mobilise For Cultural Festival

By Peterkins Manyong

Njindom people of the Meta clan in Momo Division are warming up for a grand cultural festival scheduled to hold on December 26. Briefing The Post in Bamenda, His Royal Highness,  Dr. G.F Fombo, said the occasion is intended to showcase the rich Njindom Culture and bring together sons and daughters of the village from far and near.

He said the presence of the youth is very important, reason why the activities earmarked include not only dancing and cultural displays, but also athletics, football, handball and a marathon. He regretted the fact that most Njindom youths have become too westernised and no longer care about their culture. The December 26 event is, therefore, a great cultural revival. Elite of the village are expected to contribute in every useful manner towards the success of the event.

Although not a fund-raising event, the Fon said he expects the sons and daughters of the village to contribute within the means at their disposal to make the event grandiose. He justified the choice of date on grounds that many people like to spend Christmas at home. The Fon, who is a lecturer at the University of Buea, said that, despite his absence from the village due to the necessity of service, the village moves on well thanks to the fact that it has a very loyal regent who served the former Fon.

"We are quite organised and moving in one direction. He said there are several aspects of culture which are fast-disappearing; language in particular. He called on fellow Metas and other Cameroonians to embrace their culture, because it is their identity.
