Orange Cameroun Hands First Sports Pajero Car To Winner 

Friday, November 26, 2010, was an eventful day in Nkongsamba of the Mungo Division of Littoral Region, where officials of the mobile telephony company, Orange Cameroun, handed over the very first prize to the winner of its tombola launched last November 15. Forty nine-year-old Augustin Ngali, an Assistant Inspector of Finance at the Regional Control office of Littoral II, Nkongsamba, was the happy recipient of a brand new Pajero Sports car from Orange Cameroun.

Augustin Ngali had won the car by simply participating in the tombola organised by Orange Cameroun as part of activities to fete the 10th anniversary of the existence of the company in Cameroon. Among other things, the company put for grabs; one Mercedes 4×4, 9 Sports Pajeros and 10 cheques of FCFA 1 million.  According to Orange Cameroun Management, the tombola is a way of thanking its customers for being faithful to them for their 10 years of existence. Thus the game was placed under the slogan: "10 times thank you".

Like many other Cameroonians, just by buying and consuming Orange airtime of at least FCFA 1000 a week, Ngali became eligible for a raffle draw whose results were made known on the Canal 2 International Sunday show, "Jambo". It was thanks to Ngali’s win and in keeping with its promise of making the tombola competition a reality that officials of Orange Cameroun travelled to Nkongsamba and met with an enthusiastic population at Carrefour Lele on Friday to honour the winner and also hand to him his prize.

Present at the prize award ceremony were the Orange Cameroun Regional Delegate for the West and Northwest Regions, Madame Alice Nkainfon, the Second Assistant Prefect for Mungo, Albert Tapga, and other local administrative and security officials. Speaking on the occasion, the Orange Cameroun West and Northwest Regional Delegate said it was a real pleasure for her and the Orange family to award the prize to their first winner.

Madame Alice Nkainfon reiterated the aim of the tombola, which she said was to compensate and thank its customers who have been faithful to the company during their period of existence. She announced that every week Orange Cameroun will hand over prizes to winners nationwide, expressing the hope that they could be in Nkongsamba as many times as possible to award prizes to prospective winners.

For his part, the Prefect of Mungo thanked Orange Cameroun not just for handing over a prize to a winner in Nkongsamba but also for their socio-economic contributions for the well being of the population in particular and Cameroonians in general. While urging the winner to make judicious us of the car in order to reflect the spirit of the "prestigious gift, he meantime called on the population to have confidence in Orange Cameroun, which he said is doing a lot for the people.

How To Win

Speaking to the press on how to participate in the game and win, Made NKainfon said it suffices for a registered Orange Cameroun customer to credit his phone with at least credit for FCFA 1,000 twice a week and participate in the tombola within the week. At the end of each week, the name of the winner is published and the following week (three days after day of publication) the prize is awarded.

Irrepressible Joy

An overwhelmed Augustin Ngali could hardly hide his joy. "It is the first in my life and this is happening to me towards the end of my career. It is my greatest happiest," Ngali told reporters.
The winner said he has been a faithful customer of Orange Cameroun for 10 years because it is the best company with the best services. "I advise Orange Cameroun customers to credit their phones the more and participate in the game because it is reality. Look at me today with a new brand Pajero," he said.

On how he won, Ngali said: "On Friday, October 19, I received a message that my number had been retained for the draws of November 21. Thus, I told my children to turn on the TV to Canal 2 on Sunday because I was candidate in the draws. Unfortunately, we didn’t have electricity on that Sunday. At about 4 pm, while I was somewhere taking a beer I began receiving calls from everywhere that I was winner. Two days after Orange called me to confirm that I was winner".

In a pure celebration style, the Orange Cameroun Delegate alongside other officials present popped champagne and "blessed" the car. Ngali, after signing official documents relevant to owning the car, was driven through the town amidst shouts and ululations from the local population. Ngali, who has been working for the past 25 years as a civil servant, is married and has seven children. The tombola game will be on till January 23, 2011.

Other Activities To Celebrate 10

"It is worthy to recall that Orange Cameroun started its activities in the country 10 years ago, making mobile telephone communication accessible to Cameroonians. Considering that its subscribers are at the heart of its operations and the reason for its existence, the company is using the occasion to say to its customers: "10 times thank you for all that we have done together for 10 years," said Divine Bouopda, Orange Cameroun Media Relations personnel.

As part of the 10th anniversary celebration, besides the tombola, a caravan will travel through the ten regions of the country up to the end of January 2011, in order to meet the population and its customers. According to the programme, each stop will be punctuated by a musical concert with especially local artists, games, which will be accompanied by the award of prizes.
There will also be a football tournament that will bring together Orange and its partners in the ten regions.

How The Tombola Functions

To participate in the tombola, one needs to own an Orange sim card, be an identified customer and consume at least FCFA 1000 of credit a week. Orange subscribers can also multiply their chances by consuming more than an FCFA 1000 credit.
