By Coretta Penn Achu

Members of the Christian Youth Fellowship, CYF, of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, PCC East Mungo South Presbytery have begun celebrations ahead of their 50th anniversary, to be observed on September 5, 2009.

Youth of the movement were drawn from some congregations of the East Mungo South Presbytery that include Foumban, Koutaba, Lafe-Baleng, Mbouda, Foumbot, Mbankop and Nkongsamba. They converged at PCC Banengo-Bafoussam from August 8-9, for celebrations at the presbytery level, dubbed "CYF Golden Jubilee; Presbytery Come Together".The Presbytery Youth Coordinator, Rev. Kingsley Tita-tang laid emphasis on the goal of the movement, which he said has rallied young people who have accepted Jesus as Lord and Saviour, to witness Him in all manners.

He told the young Presbyterians that the movement was founded to compliment the work of the Church. He advised the young people to shun vices like alcoholism and the love for money.
On her part, the CYF Presbytery President, Ernestine Ndah, said, at their level, celebrations will take place in two centres; PCC Bafoussam and Bonaberi, Douala. She stated that, on December 6, all Christians of the PCC will join in a nationwide anniversary celebration in Buea and Bamenda respectively.

The over 150 youth of the 11 groups at the presbytery celebration in Bafoussam entertained the congregation to liturgical singing, a fundraising and the presentation of the Golden Jubilee fabric. The Christian Youth Fellowship was founded on September 5, 1959 in Mutengene, Buea. It is the oldest movement in the PCC, from which other groups like the Christian Women Fellowship, CWF, and Christian Men Fellowship, CMF, were born.
