Tyre Blast Heightens Fear Of Boko Haram In Kumba

By Maxcel Fokwen — A car tyre explosion at the Kumba commercial avenue on May 15, at about 1.50pm left citizens in a state of fear as many thought it was a bomb blast by the dreaded Islamic militant group, Boko Haram.
The heavy sound of the explosion sent people in a popular cyber café around the commercial hub, running for their lives, while passengers, drivers and workers of building material shops, barbing saloons and insurance companies were all gripped by fear. A Moslem faithful, who had laid a mat to pray, was about to run away, but for the laughter that followed, after many realised it was a sound of a tyre puncture.
Minutes after the incident, most of the denizens around the area, where the vehicle passed, said they thought it was the discharge of an explosive carried by a Boko Haram militant, reason why they were stunned or ran for their lives. For some time now, there have been rumours of militants of the Islamic sect seeking refuge in Kumba.
