Gold, bronze and silver medals alongside trophies won by the University of Bamenda UBa, at the 18th Edition of the University Games in Yaounde, were recently presented to the authorities of the University of Bamenda, UBa.

Speaking during the ceremony, the UBa Vice Chancellor of Prof. Edward Edokat Tafah Oki, thanked the administration, technical, medical teams and commission members for investing their resources to select and prepare the athletes for the games.

He acknowledged that the conditions of training athletes at UBa, are not optimal due to the state of sporting infrastructure on campus.

Despite all odds, the UBa boys and girls, were committed, enthusiastic and worked towards producing results for the glory and public image of the University and the Region as a whole.

Though UBa cannot boast of having standard infrastructure, but they are nursing ideas of also hosting the university games in the nearest future.

“We are very conscious of the fact that Rome was not built in one day. Therefore, we have the desire to progressively develop the existing conceptions of our sports arena not only for our students but for the benefit of the entire Tubah Community” Edokat noted.

He said the team that went to Yaounde, was spurred by its traditional competition slogan “UBa Is Going Without Fear”. As a result, they fought with temerity, courage and determination to defend the interest of the University in all domains.

“Even during moments of provocation and intimidation, they remained serene like Christ and solid, steadfast like the rocks of mushongmabu”.

To him, it is not a surprise therefore, that the UBa in its fourth participation was ranked 10th on a general classification of 15 State and private institutions of higher learning in Cameroon.
The VC said the two trophies won by the fan club and the medals, and many more, have shown the world the level of ingenuity, creativity, team spirit, solidarity, endurance and self-determination of the their athletes.

In order to consolidate and improve on UBa achievements, Edokat promised to create a propitious and suitable environment for medalists and potential athletes of the University.

Equally, more opportunities would be created for the detection of new talents and a friendlier training environment in future.

UBa, sent 192 athletes that participated in 10 disciplines, won three gold medals, eight bronze and six silver.
