University of Buea FC failed to shine

Victoria United FC aka OPOPO and University of Buea FC were eliminated from the Southwest Mini Interpools by Continental FC and Best Stars respectively last Sunday at the Limbe Centenary Stadium.

OPOPO were beaten at home by Continental FC of Buea in the knockout stage of the Southwest Mini Interpools tournament after penalty shoots (3-4). The Limbe side were one of the favourites to represent the region at the National Interpools tournament for accession to League 2

In the much awaited encounter, Continental FC took lead thanks to a goal from Felix Nomen that silenced the vibrant One People One Power (OPOPO) supporters in the Limbe Centenary Stadium.

After taking control of the game, Victoria United finally equalized through Francis Lima. They will continue mounting pressure but, however, failed to penetrate the Continental defensive wall.

After regular 90 minutes play time, both teams will proceed to penalty shoots immediately but it was Continental FC that carried the day 4-3.

Meanwhile, in the first encounter of the day, University Of Buea Football Club lost to Best Stars of Limbe 2-4.  After some 25 minutes of play, UBFC were being led 2-0. But with some 10 minutes for the first segment of the game to end, UBFC mask man George Nche’s double gave UBFC the equalizer.

However, some changes from the UBFC coach, Nicholas Asoungu, instead marred things for his side as Best Stars began the second half by scoring two goals to make it 4-2. Things later on got worse for UBFC when two of their players, Yannick Ofon and Godlove Mbatu were shown red.

Earlier on Saturday, EEMSA and Botafogo AFC both picked up their tickets for the semi-finals after beating Ekona United and Prisons Social Club of Buea respectively.

The draws for the next round will be done today, Monday, October 26.
