BY MAXCEL FOKWEN

The death has been reported of the National President of the Youth Wing of the ruling CPDM party, Stephen Mbonda Motia. He was confirmed dead in the early hours of Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at the Kumba District Hospital, Meme, Southwest Region.
According to the hospital Director, Zachs Ebongo Nanje, doctors at the hospital confirmed Mbonda dead after he was driven in from Limbe in Fako Division. Ebongo said Mbonda apparently gave up the ghost before the vehicle transporting him could reach the hospital.
The driver of the deceased who identified himself as Ngu, told The Post that, his boss had been complaining of nerve problems two days earlier and had sent him to buy specific drugs to calm down the situation.
Ngu, who equally manages the estates of the YCPDM President said Mbonda assured him that all was fine and sent him to the farm to check the progress of work. Ngu said by the time he returned from the farm, he was informed that his boss had gone to Limbe to seek medical attention. He explained that, things only took a turn for the worst when they were informed that, his situation had deteriorated and that he was being taken to Kumba for medical attention.
Andrew Otte Mofa, Senator from the same Sub-Division with the deceased, told mourners at the mortuary that, there was alikely error somewhere.
Otte said he could not believe the “political hero” had passed on, given that he spoke with him on phone around 10 am, Tuesday August 5, and that he sounded hale and hearty. The Senator said that, he even effected a financial transaction through a money transfer agency and that Mbonda was the one who carried out his own part of the transaction. He would want investigations carried out in relation to the movements of the youth president between Tuesday and Wednesday morning when he passed on.
The Post gathered that, Mbonda had travelled to the sea side resort town in the company of a driver and one of his daughters to seek medical attention before they were being referred back to Kumba.
Unconfirmed reports state that, he consulted his personal doctor, while others hold that the youth president visited but a public hospital in Limbe.
At the time this report was written, the remains of the deceased were still on a stretcher at the Kumba District Hospital Mortuary pending   instructions from his close friends and family members.
The atmosphere at the mortuary looked like a possible autopsy would be carried out on the deceased.
His last outing at a public meeting was during the visit of Higher Education Minister Jacques Fame Nodngo to Kumba to assess work on the kick off of HTTTC Kumba.
Mbonda a native of Bai Sombe Village in Mbonge Sub-Division was raised to political stardom following the Third Ordinary Congress of the CPDM party that held in Yaoundé in September 2011.
Since 2011 till his demise, he was admired as a veritable crowd puller for major CPDM meetings in the Southwest Region. He helped most local party bigwigs retain their Mayoral.
One of his worst moments within the national bureau of the party was when his candidature to go in as Member of Parliament for Meme West constituency was turned down by the party’s’ Central Committee.  As a result, Mbonda became a little hard on certain bigwigs of the regime, accusing them of not giving the youths a chance. He later on insisted on meeting the President of the Republic to “explain the situation on the ground” but the party appeased him with a trip to the People’s Republic of China. Thereafter, Mbonda accompanied the Indomitable Lions to Brazil for the World Cup before returning home to urge youths not to relent their support for the team despite the challenging moments.
He leaves behind children, political friends and family members to mourn him.
